After-School Programs

These programs are designed to meet the needs of the after-school audience and focus on specific science topics using informal, inquiry-based activities. These programs are also available for summer camps or other organized groups.

  • Grades 4–8

Are you up to the challenge? You’ll see toys in a whole new light as you examine the potential and kinetic energy that makes them work. Then put your new knowledge to the test as toy inventors.

  • Grades 2–5

Touch a real human femur. Investigate bones and muscles as you observe a chicken wing dissection. Create your own dancing skeleton to take home.

  • Grades 2–5

Challenge your cerebrum with a clever problem. Investigate the nervous system as you observe a sheep brain dissection. Create your own “brain-hat” to take home.

  • Grades 2–5

Challenge your blink ref lex. Investigate the eye as you observe a cow eye dissection. Create an eye craft to take home.

  • Grades 2–5

Compare the strength of heart muscle to skeletal muscle. Investigate the circulatory system as you observe a sheep heart dissection. Create a heart craft to take home.

  • Grades 3–6

Discover the unique characteristics of raptors. Examine owl and hawk specimens and their adaptations for hunting. Find out what was on the “menu” during a small group dissection of owl pellets.

  • Grades 2–8

Blast into physics! As the engineer, you will go full throttle and experiment with the basic principles of f light and motion. Design, create, and launch your own paper rocket. Hey, it’s just rocket science!
